Nelson Bay is a coastal town found on the Tomaree Penninsula of Port Stephens and is a very popular scuba diving destination. It is located about 40 mins north of Newcastle and scuba divers from all around Australia head to Nelson Bay for diving. Nelson Bay is home to some of the best shore scuba diving in all of Australia with the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park containing some of of the best sponge gardens on the east coast of Australia.
